Bourg d’Oisans is at the beginning of one of the main climbs in the Tour de France. The climb up to Alpe d’Huez is known as the 21 bends. It is 13.8 km long and ascends 1860 metres. Add famous mountain passes such as the Col de Galibier, Col de Ornon, Col de Lauteret, Col de Glandon and Croix de fer and the area is a haven for road bikers.
The region is also famous for mountain biking. Alpe d’Huez is renown for the Mega Avalanche starting on the glaciated summit of the Pic Blanc (3,300m) and descending to the lush meadows of Allemont (720m) over 30km. The bike park at Les Deux Alpes is also easily accessible.
